​The amount of time needed to learn a language also depends on how that time is spent.   Being in a country where the language is spoken is usually better than classroom learning. Classroom learning, though, where you practice the language is better than going to a foreign country and then only speaking your native language. The amount of time practicing and using the language is the key.
